GROWING PAINS:

The Newsletter of Pediatric Specialists
of Foxborough and Wrentham

SUMMER 2001

Affiliations:We are pleased to share some news with you: Pediatric Specialists patients who need to receive specialty medical care can now do so at the MassGeneral Hospital for Children and at MassGeneral for Children at Newton-Wellesley Hospital. Pediatric Specialists is expanding its list of specialty care physicians to include these hospitals as well as Children’s Hospital,Caritas Norwood Hospital Specialty Clinics, Hasbro Hospital ,University of Massachusetts Medical Center, and the Floating Hospital for Children. You can have peace of mind knowing that your child will continue to be seen by some of the world's foremost experts in children's health care.

MGH has enhanced its pediatric services and a number of outstanding specialists have joined the hospital’s staff. In January 1999, the hospital formed the MassGeneral Hospital for Children, a "hospital within a hospital." MassGeneral Hospital for Children is the hub of a family-centered network of specialists, all of whom are on the faculty of Harvard Medical School. They provide services at both the main hospital campus in Boston and at MassGeneral for Children at Newton-Wellesley Hospital in Newton. You may choose the location that is most convenient for you and your family.

You will be especially happy with the personalized, compassionate manner in which MassGeneral Hospital for Children specialists deliver their excellent care. You as a parent are a true partner in the care of your child. You will be listened to closely, and, along with your family pediatrician, involved in every decision in your child's treatment plan.

We are looking forward to a long and successful relationship with the MassGeneral Hospital for Children physicians on the main campus and at Newton-Wellesley Hospital. We know that many of you have long-standing relationships with specialists at Children’s Hospital and the Floating Hospital for Children. We will ensure that you and your children can continue those relationships.

In every case where we believe that a referral to a specialist is needed, we will discuss this with you and make our recommendations. Just as we are confident with the expertise and responsiveness at the MassGeneral Hospital for Children, we believe that you, too, will find these specialists available and compassionate to the needs of you and your children.

Should you have any questions about our exciting, new affiliation with MassGeneral Hospital for Children, please call us at 508-543-6306 / 508-384-7867. We look forward to continuing to provide you with the high quality, attentive care you have come to expect from us.

Asthma Program: We are proud to announce that Pediatric Specialists is participating in the Equis asthma project. This program is designed to provide a high standard of care for our asthmatic patients along with more intensive monitoring and preventive management. We are also in the process of developing a data base of all the asthmatic patients in our practice so that we may more easily follow and monitor these children  as well as notify them of new developments. For more information regarding this initiative please speak with Judith Shea-Vaillancourt or Debbie Nudd.

Welcome Back: Pediatric Specialists is happy to announce that Barbara Hawley has returned after an eight year absence to our happy family in the role of Wrentham Coordinator. Barbara had worked with us for eight years prior to moving to Utah and after continued work in a medical office there has moved back to the area. We know you will find her a most pleasant and informative resource when calling the Wrentham office.

NEW NURSE PRACTITIONERS: For those who have been in the offices recently must be aware of some new faces in the form of practitioners. Because of some cut back in hours from our existing staff and the need for additional help on weekends, Pediatric Specialists has recruited the service of some fine new providers. Regina Muccio has joined us several months ago and most recently Karen Wesselhoeft ,Carrie Essex, and Connie Norton have taken positions. We feel these are all quality individuals who go beyond their job descriptions to provide personal and diligent care to our patients. We hope to have a detailed profile on them in the near future in the provider section of this Web page.

Physicals:Please remember that Pediatric Specialists gets many request for annual physical exams in the months of June through September. Please schedule as early as possible. Every attempt will be made to accommodate your needs in order to get this accomplished in a timely fashion. Please have some flexibility on the time of the appointment.

OUR 25TH ANNIVERSARY: The year 2001 marks the twenty-fifth year that Pediatric Specialists has been in operation. Opening our doors on July 12th, 1976 on Church Street in Foxborough, we have proudly provided services to our area’s youngsters for a quarter century. It is with gratitude that we say thanks to all those who have been a part of our practice. It is a real joy, albeit humbling, to see second-generation children in the practice. Our patients’ trust and confidence for all those years are the incentives and rewards to keep working to make Pediatric Specialists a "special" place. We hope the next twenty-five years bring new treatments and cures to our patients with chronic illnesses and new preventions to keep our children healthy.
