Seasonal Tips

AUTUMN

Here it is already fall and the kids are back to school and the summer vacation is a fond memory as our thoughts shift to home and the upcoming cooler weather. Colorful leaves will soon herald the season and some of the finest weather anywhere arrives, even if for a short time. Here are a few tips, ideas and reminders to make autumn as special as it is.

  • Remember when burning leaves or brush to obtain a permit from the town. Also be aware that burning poison ivy can be quite hazardous as the inhaled fumes can elicit swelling and obstruction in the respiratory tract. Best to try and avoid burning this weed.
  • Remember even though the sun may not be as warm as the summer it is recommended that you use sun screen on yourself and children when outside for any period of time. The destructive effects of the sun are of a cumulative nature and the caution we exert as children will pay dividends as adults.
  • With Halloween on the horizon it is a good time to review good rules with your children regarding stranger safety. It is also imperative that you ask your kids to allow you to screen any and all items received at Halloween before any are consumed. Make sure the kids are dressed warmly and also have reflective material on so that they are visible to cars on the street.
  • With this beautiful weather you must find time in between soccer and football games to get the family out for a day to enjoy the season. Apple picking is always fun and healthy. A family hike is also a great way to spend a fall afternoon. Hiking through the state forest in Foxborough or Borderland State Park in Easton are just two suggestions. Likewise a family bike ride is also fun. Pack those bikes and take them for a ride at the Cape Cod Canal or drive further down Route 6 to South Dennis and get on the Rail Trail. Both rides are excellent in the fall weather and the exercise is just what the doctor ordered.

By all means get together as a family and enjoy this wonderful season!!!
